Stock market close has been relatively mixed for the day with the Dow Jones reporting an overall 0.13% increase while both the NASDAQ and the S&P reported losses. NASDAQ finished down 1.25% while the S&P finished down 0.46%. Stocks within each market reported ups and downs.

The Dow Jones

The Dow Jones Industrial Average Index has reported a year-to-date decrease of 1.77%, however, it’s been reporting mostly increases over the past week. The current 5 day change reports an increase of 0.33%, however, looking at the last month’s total there’s been an increase of more than double that at 0.67%. Over the past three months, this increase has reflected 7.32%. The Index opened at 28,031.69, reaching a day high of 28,364.77 and a day low of 28,021.67 before closing at 28,032.38.

The top companies to increase over the course of the day were Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS), Walmart Inc. (WMT), Chevron Corp. (CVX), and Coca-Cola Co. (KO). On the opposite side were the biggest losers of the day with 3M Co. (MMM), Honeywell International Inc. (HON), Home Depot Inc. (HD), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), and Boeing Co. (BA).

 

NASDAQ

While the NASDAQ Composite Index showed the greatest loss over the course of the day, it has actually shown a year-to-date increase of 23.16%. Over the past 5 days, however, it’s shown a decrease of 0.82%, with most days reporting a loss. When extended over the past month reports are slightly better, though still showing a loss of 0.71%, which reverses entirely when we look at the 3-month report and its increase of 11.50%. The NASDAQ opened at 11,222.08 before hitting a day high of 11,245.42 and a day low of 11,046.43. This was before the market close at 11,050.47.

10X Genomics Inc. (TXG) and 1Life Healthcare Inc. (ONEM) saw the largest increases in their market share today while 89Bio Inc. (ETNB) and 21 Vianet Group Inc. (VNET) saw the largest decreases in their market share today.

 

S&P 500

The S&P 500 Index has reported a year-to-date increase of 4.79%, however, it’s been reporting numbers up and down over the past week. The current 5-day change reports a decrease of 0.40%, however looking at the report over the last month there has been an increase of 0.10%, which grows to 8.74% over the last three months. The Index opened at 3,411.23 and reached a day high of 3,428.92, the low falling to 3,384.45 before closing at 3,385.49.
