Stock market close on Monday reported yet another day of solid decreases across all three of the New York Stock Exchange top markets. The NASDAQ, Dow and S&P 500 all saw a drop throughout the first day of the week.

 

The Dow Jones

The Dow Jones Industrial Average Index reported a decrease of 509.72 or 1.84%. Year-to-date, the Dow Jones has seen a decrease of 4.87%, which represents a 3.02% decrease over the past five days. Over a month the drop extends to 2.80%, though over the last three months the stock has actually increased by 4.31%. Today the Dow Jones closed at 27,147.70, after opening at 27,484.71 and hitting a daily high of 27,484.71 and a daily low of 26,715.15.

NASDAQ

The S&P 500 Index reported a decrease of 38.41 or 1.16%. Year-to-date, The S&P 500 has seen an increase of 1.56%, which represents a 3.03% decrease over the past five days. Over a month the drop extends to 3.42%, though over the last three months the stock has actually increased by 5.23%. Today, the S&P 500 closed at 3,281.06, after opening at 3,285.57 and hitting a daily high of 3,285.57 and a daily low of 3,229.10.

There were several high achieving stocks throughout the day, including PayPal (PYP), Netflix (NFLX), IDEXX Laboratories (IDXX), NVIDIA (NVDA), Lam Research (LRCX), and Intuit (INTU). The losers throughout the day included Alaska Air Group (ALK), Centene (CNC), Universal Health Services (UHS), Illumina (ILMN), and Federal Realty Investment Trust (FRT).
