Stock Market Declines After News of Airline Bailout Failure - October 6, 2020

The stock market was back down again today with each of the markets closing down further than they rose for the previous day. The Dow Jones saw a decrease of 375.88 points or 1.34%. The NASDAQ saw a decrease of 177.88 points or 1.57%. The S&P 509 saw a decrease of 47.66 points or 1.40%. For the first time in a while all three markets saw an increase over the five day, one month and three month time frame.

Dow Jones

The Dow Jones saw a decrease today of 375.88 points or 1.34%, closing at 27,772.76. This after opening at 28,214.24, hitting a high of 28,354.48 and a low of 27,728.03. The five day change shows an increase of 1.17%, while the one month increase shows 0.99% and the three month an increase of 7.27%. The year-to-date shows a decrease of 2.68%.

There were no gainers for the Dow Jones over the course of the day however several stocks saw a decrease including Nike Inc. (NKE), Salesforce.Com Inc. (CRM), Home Depot Inc. (HD) and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS).

NASDAQ

The NASDAQ saw a decrease today of 177.88 points or 1.57%, closing at 11,154.60. This after opening at 11,314.53, hitting a high of 11,392.41 and a low of 11,124.45. The five day change shows an increase of 0.63%, while the one month increase shows 2.82% and the three month an increase of 7.84%. The year-to-date shows an increase of 24.32%.

The gainers for the NASDAQ for the day included 10X Genomics Inc. (TXG), 111 Inc. (YI), 1^st Constitution Bancorp (FCCY), 21Vianet Group Inc. (VNET), 2U Inc. (TWOU), and 36Kr Holdings Inc. (KRKR). Losers for the day included 1-800-Flowers.com Inc. (FLWS), 1Life Healthcare Inc. (ONEM), 360 DigiTech Inc. (QFIN) and 89Bio Inc. (ETNB).

S&P 500

The S&P 500 saw a decrease today of 47.66 points or 1.40%, closing at 3,360.97. This after opening at 3,408.74, hitting a high of 3,431.56 and a low of 3,354.54. The five day change shows an increase of 0.76%, while the one month increase shows 0.87% and the three month an increase of 6.86%. the year-to-date shows an increase of 4.03%.

The gainers for the S&P 500 for the day included Snap-On Inc. (SNA), Edison International (EIX), CMS Energy Corp. (CMS), Alliant Energy (LNT), Pinnacle West Capital Corp. (PNW), Sysco Corp. (SYY) and Simon Property Group Inc. (SPG). Losers for the day included Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. (REGN), Incyte Corp. (INCY), eBay Inc. (EBAY), Electronic Arts Inc. (EA), CarMax Inc. (KMX) and Boeing Inc. (BA).
